"The Discipline of Place" and Things to Read this WeekThe discipline of place, the books I'm loving, and a smattering of articles on faith, family, and disability. Amy Julia Becker
I finished The Little Way of Ruthie Leming. I thought it could have been even better than it was, but I still ultimately recommend it. This was my favorite line: "St. Benedict considered the kinds of monks who moved from place to place all the time to be the worst of all. They refused the discipline of place and community, and because of that, they could never know humility. Without humility they could never be happy."
As for listening, I abandoned Bossypants, at least for now, and started Here if You Need Me by Kate Braestrup, a game warden chaplain in Maine who became a widow with four young children and writes about her experiences of life and death and love. I'm loving it so far.
