Like many in her genre, some of Dar Williams' favorite themes include social responsibility, holding onto truth in a flawed world, and appreciation of natural beauty. Her new release In the Time of Gods revisits these familiar ideas in the epic context of Greek mythology, exploring the complexity of the Greek deities and their "voice" in the present, both personally and culturally. While her relaxed vocals, lovely harmonies, and acoustic guitar/keyboard arrangements are creative as always, they function primarily as a backdrop to the album's real purpose—lyrical ballads on the timelessness of story.
