Style: Melodic pop/earthy rock; compare to Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow, Paula Cole
Top tracks: "Alive," "On My Way Home," "Held"
As a resident of Bruce Springsteen's hometown (Asbury Park, NJ), a cousin of Jon Bon Jovi, and a distant relative of opera star Mario Lanza, Jody Joseph sure has some big names on her side. But the singer/songwriter's performance chops are strong enough to warrant their own attention. With gutsy but melodic vocals and earthy instrumentation, Joseph would've fit right onto Fleetwood Mac's Rumours record—minus the '70s production. And she crafts lyrics like heartfelt conversations with God, making her personal spin so sincere that there's no need to cash in on her celeb connections.
