C. Everett Koop
C. Everett Koop, a pioneering pediatric surgeon and former U.S. Surgeon General, worked with theologian Francis Schaeffer to bring abortion to the forefront of evangelical social thought. He led the nation in addressing major public health concerns in the 1980s including AIDS and smoking. Koop died in February 2013 at 96.
