Most Americans know David DeVore for his starring role in “David After Dentist,” a viral YouTube video in which the boy, then 7 years old and heavily medicated after surgery, waxes philosophical on life. Now 12, DeVore still has big thoughts when it comes to drugs: He is urging teenagers to turn to Jesus instead.
An essay by DeVore entitled “Don’t Give in to Drugs. Give in to Jesus!” took first place in Florida’s Seminole County Poster and Essay Contest, earning him the right to read his essay aloud to an audience of high school students. The essay, notes Charisma News, cites the Bible as offering “the wisdom to realize what we should do and not do.”
“The Bible says things like drugs are what takes you away from God and right to the devil,” DeVore wrote.
According to Charisma News, DeVore’s father says his son is “very sensitive to things about the Lord. He is always working on his relationship with Him.”
DeVore is not the only YouTube sensation to have a strong Christian faith. CT previously reported on Carlos Whittaker, an Integrity Music artist whose home video,“Single Ladies Devastation,”made him an Internet star.
