Unlike most other genres that require Christian musicians to employ lyrical ambiguity for a shot at mainstream crossover success, rappers like KJ-52 can be unapologetically straightforward about faith. His latest has the high production value of something like Kanye West or the Black Eyed Peas, but the subject matter is youth-group ready—completely devoid of swear words or controversial content, and with plenty of faith-affirming lyrics. With samples from Sunday morning sermons and choruses like “I’m gonna speed that light / I’m gonna let him shine / I’m gonna be that light / Until they all know Christ,” Dangerous is the archetype of a Christian hip-hop album.
