Eight magazines from Christianity Today International won a total of 27 Evangelical Press Association (EPA) Higher Goal Awards announced this week in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Christianity Today led the way with eight category recognitions while sister publication Books & Culture took top honors with the 2001 Award of Excellence in the general category. Three publications also won Awards of Merit.
The EPA Higher Goals honors recognize achievements in 24 writing, design, and photography categories. 102 publications entered this year’s contest. Christianity Today placed in the top five in eight categories and finished first in reporting, single-theme issue, and one-, two-, or three-color cover.
Former editorial resident Corrie Cutrer took first in the reporting category for her article on evangelist Reinhard Bonnke, “Looking for a Miracle.” Judge Duane Stolzhuts said, “The sense of fairness and balance is striking.”
The first place single-theme issue, CT’s Special Technology Issue (February 19, 2001) was called a “great effort in a fast-moving field.” Judges called the issue’s lead article by Mark Kellner, “Is God.com Dead?” a “masterful grasp of a broad topic.”
Christianity Today’sSeptember 3, 2001 cover for Agnieszka Tennant’s article, “Possessed or Obsessed?” won top prize for a one-, two-, or three-color cover. Judge Jim Lankford said the “editorial and type treatment integrate seamlessly with the image in a simple and effective way that enhances the intent of the story.”
The magazine also placed in the critical review, editorial, fiction, first-person article, and photo feature categories.
Christianity Today’s award winning sister publications include Books & Culture, Leadership, Christian Reader, Campus Life, Marriage Partnership, Christian Parenting Today, and Christian History.
